Committed OKR

Last updated:

What is Committed OKR?

A Committed OKR is a goal that you plan to achieve in full — 100% completion is the expectation. These are your essential, non-negotiable goals where falling short requires a clear explanation of what went wrong and a plan to course-correct. Committed OKRs represent your baseline promises to the organization or to yourself.

Committed OKRs differ from aspirational OKRs in their risk profile and expectations. While aspirational OKRs encourage swinging for the fences (where 0.7 is success), committed OKRs demand reliability and follow-through. Examples include "Maintain 99.9% uptime," "Complete the product roadmap," or "Deliver within budget."

The balance between committed and aspirational OKRs is important, but a common guideline is 70% committed and 30% aspirational. This ensures you maintain momentum on essentials while still pushing yourself to grow. If you're new to OKRs, starting with mostly committed OKRs builds the habit and confidence needed before introducing more ambitious moonshot goals.
