Objectives and Key Results
Last updated:
What is Objectives and Key Results (OKR)?
Objectives and Key Results (OKR) is a goal-setting methodology that connects ambitious, qualitative goals (Objectives) with specific, measurable outcomes (Key Results) to create focus, alignment, and accountability.
An OKR consists of two parts: the Objective describes what you want to accomplish in clear, inspiring language, while Key Results define 2-5 measurable outcomes that indicate whether the Objective has been achieved. For example, an Objective might be "Become a market leader in our category," with Key Results like "Increase market share from 8% to 15%" and "Achieve 95% customer retention."
OKRs are typically set on a quarterly basis, though they can also be annual or follow custom cycles. They work at every level — personal, team, and organizational — and are designed to be transparent, creating visibility into what everyone is working toward. The framework encourages setting ambitious goals where achieving 60-70% is considered a success, fostering a culture of growth and learning.
