Mission Statement

What is Mission Statement?

A Mission Statement is a clear, concise declaration of your core purpose — the "why" behind everything you do. In the context of OKR planning, your mission statement serves as the ultimate compass, guiding which objectives to pursue and ensuring your goals align with your values and long-term vision.

A good mission statement answers: "What is our core purpose?" and "What impact do we want to have?" It should be broad enough to remain relevant for years but specific enough to guide real decisions. Examples include: "Empower teams to do their best work" or "Make financial services accessible to everyone."

The relationship between mission statements and OKRs is hierarchical: your mission informs your annual or long-term strategy, which cascades into quarterly OKRs. When you're unsure whether to pursue a potential objective, your mission statement provides the filter. If a goal doesn't connect to your mission — even indirectly — it might not deserve a spot in your OKR set.
