Progress Tracking

What is Progress Tracking?

Progress Tracking is the ongoing practice of measuring, recording, and visualizing movement toward your Key Results. It transforms OKRs from a set-and-forget exercise into a living system that drives daily action and informed decision-making.

Effective progress tracking involves several elements: updating current metric values, recording the context behind changes, and comparing trajectory against the target (are you on pace to hit your goal?). The most useful tracking systems make progress visible at a glance — progress bars, trend charts, or simple current/target comparisons.

The psychology of progress tracking is powerful. Research shows that the sense of making progress is one of the most important factors in motivating people. Visible progress creates a positive feedback loop: seeing movement toward a goal motivates further action, which creates more progress. Conversely, tracking can reveal early when something is off track, allowing you to adjust your approach before it's too late.
